EC627 Applied Econometrics (Graduate)

An advanced graduate econometrics course covering estimation and inference from cross-sectional, time series, and panel data, as well as nonlinear models. Topics include:

  • Review of OLS and instrumental variable estimation
  • Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) and Generalized Method of Moments (GMM)
  • Panel data: fixed effects and random effects models
  • Nonlinear estimation and maximum likelihood
  • Binary, multinomial, ordered, and count response models (Probit, Logit, Tobit, Poisson)
  • Univariate and multivariate time series: VAR, cointegration, VECM
  • Volatility models (GARCH) and nonlinear/structural break models

EC627 Microeconometrics (Graduate)

Level: Graduate (MA/PhD)  |  Prerequisite: EC625

An advanced graduate course focusing on microeconometric methods for cross-sectional and panel data. Topics include:

  • OLS, IV estimation, GMM
  • Panel data: fixed effects and random effects
  • Binary and multinomial response models (Logit, Probit, Multinomial Logit)
  • Corner solution models (Tobit)
  • Count data models (Poisson, Negative Binomial)
  • Censored data and sample selection models
  • Stratified and cluster sampling
  • Estimating average treatment effects

EC432 Monetary Theory and Policy (Undergraduate)

Level: Undergraduate  |  Credits: 3  |  Prerequisite: EC312

Covers the role of money in the economy and the design and implementation of monetary policy. Topics include:

  • Empirical evidence on money, prices, and output
  • Short-run analysis using the IS-PC-MR three-equation model
  • Theory of monetary policy: rules vs. discretion, time-inconsistency, central bank independence
  • Role of commercial banks and monetary transmission mechanisms
  • Monetary policy operations and inflation targeting
  • Money in open economies
  • Monetary and fiscal policy interactions
  • Unconventional monetary policies and macroprudential policy
